About Us
MISSION STATEMENT
To promote and protect the rights and well-being of all domestic animals and wildlife, and to foster a greater understanding of animal welfare and animal rights through education.
Founded in 1982 by the late Esther Nowell, PAWS is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal welfare organization. We rescue, foster, re-home and facilitate adoptions for cats in the greater Wakefield area.
Partnering with the VCA Wakefield Animal Hospital, PAWS funds the cost of spaying/neutering, exams, vaccinations, medicines, blood work and diagnostic tests, medical supplies and emergency interventions for all the animals in our care. We also provide food for foster cats.
The PAWS Humane Response Line and our email service are open 24/7 and are monitored daily. Messages are returned as soon as possible, providing answers and solutions to pet-related issues and needs.
Our adoption program matches pets and people for companionship and assists families who can no longer care for their pets. We microchip all of our cats and offer low cost microchip services to the community.
The PAWS spay/neuter program works with the community to ensure that pet guardians have access to affordable spay/neuter services and veterinarian care options for their cats. We also work with the community to ensure that free-roaming cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and provided with food and appropriate shelter.
PAWS offers educational programs for the community, including speakers and demonstrations. Educational literature and informative pamphlets are distributed at meetings, community events, and in the Wakefield Schools. PAWS also provides a monthly newsletter.
